While much reseach has validated the connection between emotional intelligence and success in the business world, there is emerging evidence that a successful transition from high school to a postsecondary setting is linked to emotional intelligence. In a recent study examining the transition from high school to university, Parker, Summerfeldt, Hogan and Majeski (2004) fount that academically successful students (those who had first-year GPAs of 3.0 or better) had significantly higher scores on most of the emotional intelligence dimension than less successful students (those with first-year GPAs below 2.0). These results have recently been replicated in several independent samples.
